What is Healthier You?

If you’re likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes, Healthier You can support you to improve your health. The programme will help you to achieve a healthy weight, improve your nutrition and increase your physical activity levels. Improving your health will lower your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.

How is Healthier You delivered?

Healthier You consists of face to face group sessions delivered by trained health and wellbeing coaches over the course of 9 – 12 months. Throughout the programme participants learn how to prevent diabetes by incorporating healthier eating, physical activity, problem-solving, stress-reduction and coping skills into their daily lives.

Healthier You also provides a digital service for people unable to attend face to face sessions and there is a remote service that supports people who may struggle to access services.

Why is the Healthier You moving to Reed Wellbeing?

The Healthier You programme is funded by NHS England nationally. As the contract with Xyla Health and Wellbeing was due to come to an end, a process was undertaken to decide who would run the service from August. The result of this process has been to aware the contract to Reed Wellbeing who will provide the service from 1st August for the next 3 years.

Who currently runs the Healthier You service?

In Greater Manchester, Healthier You has been provided by Xyla Health and Wellbeing since 2019. From 1st August 2022 they will no longer run the service. They will stop accepting new referrals from Friday 29th July 2022 and at that point any new referrals will need to be sent to Reed Wellbeing. A new referral form and contact details will be shared with GP practices across Greater Manchester ahead of this date.

I’ve been referred to Healthier You but haven’t yet started the programme, what will happen to me?

If you’ve already been referred to Healthier You, Xyla Health and Wellbeing will try and get you started on the programme before the end of July. If you do start the programme before the end of July you will continue to be supported by Xyla Health and Wellbeing until you are finished.

If you don’t start the Healthier You programme by the end of July, your information will safely shared with Reed Wellbeing so that they can contact you and you will start the programme with them. You will receive a letter from Xyla Health and Wellbeing about this and will be given the option to opt out if you would rather your information not be passed on to Reed Wellbeing. If you do opt out, this would mean your GP would have to re refer you into the programme to Reed Wellbeing.

I have started Healthier You but I won’t have finished by end of July, what will happen to me?

If you have started the Healthier You programme before the end of July, please don’t worry you won’t need to do anything. You will continue to be supported by Xyla Health and Wellbeing until you fully complete the programme.

Why is this change happening?

The current contract was coming to an end and the decision was made, following due process, to award the contract to Reed Wellbeing. The NHS in Greater Manchester is working closely with Xyla Health and Wellbeing and Reed Wellbeing to ensure the service transfers safely and that patients continue to be supported.

Will the service change when it moves to Reed Wellbeing?

The service will continue to work much the same as it does now. The programme will continue to offer face to face sessions, digital sessions and remote services for those communities who struggle to access services. More information can be found at https://healthieryou.reedwellbeing.com/.
