Dexcom Overview
Dexcom was founded in 1999 and released its first continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor in 2004. Dexcom currently manufactures and supplies three different CGM systems:
Dexcom ONE+
- A simplified real‑time CGM suitable for adults and children living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
- Designed for ease of use and broad accessibility; available on NHS prescription.
Dexcom G7
- Latest‑generation, high‑accuracy rtCGM with short warm‑up, small profile, and broad compatibility with AID (hybrid closed-loop) systems.
- Recommended particularly for those with:
- Type 1 diabetes needing tighter control
- Hypoglycaemia unawareness
- Pregnancy
- Paediatric use
- Patients using technology‑integrated insulin delivery [dexcom.com]
Dexcom G6 (Being Retired for New Patients)
- From 1 April 2026, Dexcom G6 will no longer be initiated for new UK patients.
- Dexcom provides active transition programmes to support existing G6 users progressing to G7.
