Healthier You NDPP Overview
The Healthier You NDPP (National Diabetes Prevention Programme) was developed collaboratively by NHS England, Public Health England and Diabetes UK, to deliver at scale, evidence based behavioural interventions for individuals identified as being at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. NHS England commission and fund the NHS DPP nationally.
Heathier You is a behaviour change programme where people learn about:
- What is a healthy diet
- Ways to add physical activity into every day life
- How to remove barriers that get in the way of making healthy changes
- Life changing skills and knowledge for long term success
- Skills to stay motivated
In order to make sure the programme meets the needs of local populations advice on healthy eating is based on making small changes to the foods that participants enjoy and the service is delivered in a number of languages.
How is the programme delivered?
There are 3 ways to take part in the programme -
- The face-to-face programme consisting of 13 friendly and supportive group based sessions over nine months with a trained health coach.
- A digital service delivered online through a smartphone app and website with one-to-one coaching sessions giving more patients more flexibility of accessing resources.
- A remote service in online video sessions with a Health Coach for people who require additional support with access. This includes those with a visual or hearing impairment, specific language needs and women with previous gestational diabetes.
In Greater Manchester the group based programme is provided by Reed Health & Wellbeing and the digital service is delivered by Second Nature.
