Healthier You NDPP Overview
The Healthier You NDPP (National Diabetes Prevention Programme) was developed collaboratively by NHS England, Public Health England and Diabetes UK, to deliver at scale, evidence based behavioural interventions for individuals identified as being at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. NHS England commission and fund the NHS DPP nationally.
Heathier You is a behaviour change programme where people learn about:
- What is a healthy diet
- Ways to add physical activity into every day life
- How to remove barriers that get in the way of making healthy changes
- Life changing skills and knowledge for long term success
- Skills to stay motivated
In order to make sure the programme meets the needs of local populations advice on healthy eating is based on making small changes to the foods that participants enjoy and the service is delivered in a number of languages including:
Arabic; Chinese (Hong Kong); Chinese (simplified); Farsi; Gujarati; Kurdish; Nepalese; Polish; Punjabi; Romanian; Somali; Spanish; Tamil; Turkish; Urdu
How is the programme delivered?
Designed as a face-to-face group based programme Healthier You is now delivered through conference calls and group video conference due to social distancing.
There is also a digital service delivered online through a smartphone app and website with one-to-one coaching sessions giving more patients more flexibility of accessing resources.
In Greater Manchester the group based programme is provided by XYLA Health & Wellbeing (formerly ICS Health and Wellbeing) and the digital service is delivered by Oviva.
